Cold weather has arrived

First, on this Veteran's Day, I would like to thank all our Veterans for their service to their country and all its citizens.

In one day, we went from almost 80 degrees F to freezing with 40 mph wind, which is rather typical Kansas weather. Now I remember why I do not like to wear dresses. After seeing so many bloggers wear dresses and tights, I decided to give it a try myself for my Visible Monday outfit. I bought a really pretty sweater dress and some black tights. The sweater dress was only $11.00 at the 1/2 of 1/2 Store. The tights I had gotten to wear with a dress for a wedding we attended Friday night. (More about that later.) I think the next time I wear the sweater dress it will be with skinny jeans underneath and not tights. Brrr, cold!

Friday night we attended the wedding of two of the loveliest young people I have ever met. Quinn, the bride, is the daughter of my best friend. She and her husband Stuart are the kind of young people every parent would want their children to grow up to be. They are both hard-working and focused on their futures.  In an era when weddings can often be ostentatious expensive extravaganzas, they chose to make their focus on family and friends and their love for each other. Their wedding was simply elegant and suited them perfectly. I felt lucky to be a part of their beautiful day. Thank you Quinn and Stuart and I wish the best of everything to you both. May you always be as happy as you were on your wedding day.

I hope you will all join me for our fun Visible Monday and Monday Mingle weekly fashion linkup.

  1. Hi Debbi, I love the outfit, especially the cut of the sweater dress and the bit of sheen that it has. I completely understand about disliking wearing dresses in chilly weather, brrr. I can't wait to see this dress styled with those skinnies. You will look awesome.

  2. Debbi, the dress and boots are really cute! I can't stand being chilly either. Have you tried leggings or maybe some ponte knit pants underneath?

  3. That's so cute! I like seeing you in a dress, and the boots are awesome. It's funny, though -- I wear skirts and tights all the time in winter, even here in chilly New England! I hate the cold, but maybe I'm more used to it than I realize.

  4. Great boots - with that decoration, they are not just footwear, but an actual accessory. Which is perfect for you! I am really liking your Foxcroft blouses. Very crisp looking.

  5. The outfit is terrific. And I'd just love to have a pair of boots like those.

  6. Wonderful look, Debbi - it's fun to see you in a dress! I know what you mean about the chill though, when you're accustomed to trousers : > Love those boots too - they are a super accessory, as Beryl said. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

  7. I live in a warm climate and usually it's enough with thick tights to keep your legs warm, I love dresses and pants hatred ... I can not avoid it ... so let say to you that is absolutely beautiful with this knit dress! Love your outfit!

  8. The wedding, and the bride & groom, all sound lovely. And your boots are fabulous!! They even look like they would be comfortable, which is a must for me.

  9. Great boots and sweater dress, which I love the look of over the blouse. The dress is a great shape and good length to wear with jeans or jeggings as well. Another layering option for added warmth is a skirt - I'd try a fitted stretchy knit pencil skirt, below-knee / midi length. Lovely wedding story.

  11. you look amazing in the dress, debbie! you should wear it often. if it is very cold i wear my dresses with leggins or with woolen tights (and sometimes with warmers). your boots are fantastic too!

  12. I love this look on you. That blue is very flattering with your complexion and hair.
    I dislike feeling chilly too.

I wear a version of this at least twice a week and feel "very slim" when wearing boots and leggings!
Plus it's comfortable and I can wear it to work.

Love the blue sweater dress on you!!! I'll bet it will look really cute with the skinny and warmer jeans!!

  14. Yes, you look great in that outfit, Debbi. The colors look good on you too. Don't give up on dresses! I also wear petit pants under dresses which really warms things up. And longer skirts too. But it looks great how you have it with the blouse, tights and boots. And, of course, Megan's button flower!

  15. This is a very cute look for you Debi, and the boots are great! I can understand the cold factor though - maybe add jeans as the winter comes on.

  16. Ohmygoodness, Debbi, this look is incredible. You look totally cool, and I love the buttonflower! The boots are very magical. All of my tights are thick as leggings, but skinny jeans would be a good option too. I may turn to that if it gets really cold this winter.

  17. Dresses suit your look, if not your weather! I love a good sweater dress, and I love purple, so I love this. And those boots are just fantastic.

FWIW, I find thermal tights are a total lifesaver!

  18. The boots are fantastic. The sweater dress looks great on you, even though you were chilly. It's been snowing in Denver, so layers are in the forecast!

  20. Love the boots and the sweater dress is a find. I would wear this dress with leggings, skinny jeans or whatever just for the warmth factor as well. The blue suits you as well.

  22. You look fantastic in that dress! I do hope you will wear them more often - you have great legs. Layered tights or leggings or jeggings will help keep you toasty warm. Silk long underwear is also very warm and it feels wonderful next to the skin. The wedding sounds very life affirming. I'm glad you got that injection of positive vibes!

  26. These boots are GREAT! I always wear very flat boots and sometimes it's difficult to find some that have the low heel plus a fashionable look. Great choice!

    ReplyDelete
  27. You guys may get me in a flat boot yet. These are the best yet, and agree that they'll look cute with skinnies. It's neat though, to see you in the little dress and tights. Tammy might have it with the heavier leggings ... and a little leather jacket? You look comepletely adorable. Even if you are chilled.
