Cream and Gray

I have been going back and forth trying to decide whether or not to post today. With the news of what happened in Newtown on Friday I feel so sad and a bit overwhelmed by the enormity of it all.  What a horrific tragedy. My heart goes out to all who lost a loved one and to those whose innocence has been forever lost.

My outfit for today is rather muted in gray and cream. I need to get the pants hemmed, but I did not want to wait to wear them, so I turned the hems up. I remember years ago I never had to hem pants. Now I almost always have to unless the pants are "ankle" pants in which case they fit me like perfectly.

I decide to use rather feminine accessories so I went with what I think is the ultimate feminine accessory - pearls.

Friday evening we took Harry to the dog park. It was the first time at a dog park for us and it was fun even though it was cold and windy. It was fun to see all the dogs running and sniffing. (I don't think Harry much appreciated the two neutered males who thought he needed to be humped.) While we were watching them, a lady sitting on a bench with me remarked that there was a much larger than Harry black Lab who should be arriving soon. Imagine her surprise when the huge Lab, Rex, turned out to be smaller than Harry! He is a big dude. When we got him we were told he was a smaller Airedale and was full grown. Ha! We love him regardless.

On another subject, I am going to remove the ability to comment anonymously for a while. I have been getting a lot of spam anon comments. I wanted people to be able to comment easily even if they don't have a Google account. Unfortunately the few ruin things for the many. I apologize if this inconveniences anyone (except you spammers!)

  2. The spammers are out of control and yes they do ruin it for everybody- However if you allow OPen ID, people can register an ID and comment- no problem. 21st Century odds are that we've got to register an online presence to function- so people can comment and yet be tracable, no prob.

I feel you in the tragic vs fashion post quandary. It's a tough balance. However your subdued colors and acknowledgment of the situation is fitting. Unlike the long pants, ha ha. I too, need to hem all my pants which maybe why I prefer dresses.

Wishing you a healing week. xo. Bella Q

  3. You look fantastic! And I really like the pearls over the other necklace and the denim top. We are all feeling the pain from friday - it has certainly affected my husband and I. I even had to stop watching the coverage.

  7. Your ensemble is lovely today with the strings of pearls and the texture of your cardigan, not to mention the floral jeans. I actually like them with the cuffs.

  8. How elegant these colours look together on you - and the pearls are the perfect accessory to finish it all off! I also have had enough of the spam emailers, and like you, have enabled my screening device again. Lets just hope that they also get a taste of their own medicine in their inboxes...

  10. Awesome awesome pants. I wouldn't have waited to wear them either. I pretty much always have to hem my pants. I do it myself usually.

Hello handsome Harry! My uncle and his wife have an Airedale. She's very sweet and low-key for a doggie. I was surprised at her size/temperament.

  19. I agree Debbi. It has been difficult to wrap my mind around the tragedy of last week. Your neutrals with pearls, and of course Harry, brightened my day. As you always do.

  20. Oh Debbi, I love the Dog Park! I take my son's dogs when I am in Southern California. There is a separate section for Small and Gentle Dogs, where Harry would fit right in. The Big Dog side gets a little rowdy. Your outfit is very attractive - where did you get those great pants?

  24. You Harry man is so sweet. Look how loyal he is. We have a corgi mix but I've never taken him to a dog park before. His manners with the little ones aren't so good.
I love your pants and think the turned up cuffs make them look unique. Maybe you ought to keep them that way for a bit and see if you like them funky like that after all.

These recent tragedies are saddening and a big topic for discussion within my family. My 14 year old son doesn't understand why there's so much talk about it, while myself feels so urgent for increased school safety. I wish our military would share some of its horrendous budget in helping to provide security in each and every one of our schools. Instead they choose to not involved themselves and spend 6 times more than all the other countries in the world combined just to make ourselves look "tough." But, how tough are we really when our weakest aren't even protected?

  25. Hi Debbi. Your outfit is beautiful. I love the floral pants with the tweed jacket and pearls. Very elegant yet casually chic. I think it's one of my favorites!

Regarding the tragedy, I can only hope that our country will finally be galvanized into saner laws regarding gun control. I know there are many ways of looking at it, but the ease with which an unstable person can acquire a gun is crazy to me. There are far too many deaths in this "civilized" country from gun violence, period.

  28. Debbie, Merry Christmas! I love your pants cuffed, it works so well with the beautiful jacket and lovely layering. I get such a kick out of Harry. I chuckled about the humping. I get really nervous about going to dog parks but I do it anyway and the girls love it. It is so entertaining to see how they act and carry on. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
