Velvet and Rhinestones and Glitter

First, I want to tell you how much all of your expressions of sympathy about my dear FarLeyJoE meant to me. It was such a hard week, but reading your comments meant a lot to me. Thank you so much for your kindness.

I have jury duty  this week and I am exhausted after just the first day. Just sitting in horrible chairs and waiting all day has made me very tired. I do not even know if I am on a jury yet. I have to go back tomorrow to find out if I have been chosen. This outfit is not what I wore because I always feel dirty after being at the Courthouse so I went pretty casual today. Since you have to go through a metal detector, I only wore a watch. It is too much of a hassle to take jewelry on and off and keep track of your handbag which is going through an X-ray machine 10 feet away. If you have never had jury duty, let me say that it is NOTHING like they show it on TV.

Anyway, on to the outfit. It was fairly cool on Saturday so I was able to wear my velvet jacket. It is probably still a bit early to wear it, but I wanted to wear it, so wear it I did. All of the pictures turned out horrible, so I tried to change the colors as much as I could to make it look like it really did.

Jacket: Lane Bryant
Blouse: Dillards
Jeans: Chico's
Shoes: Tom's silver glitter

The jeans have rhinestones all over the front and on the back pockets. Really glitzy. We had gone to Gander Mountain and I was sitting in a chair waiting on my DH and a young lady came up and told me how much she liked the jeans. It turns out she is a news anchor on the local FOX station. It made my day.

I hope you will join all the other stylish bloggers over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style for the Visible Monday linkup. I hope you are all having a better week than I am.

  1. Wow Debbi, you look dazzling, especially considering your day.

I ended up being called for jury duty and being selected for a first degree murder charge (omg) and there was one juror who kept the consensus from happening. I brought a sketch book and drew mandalas throughout our time locked up in deliberation. I even passed the book around a couple times to get a group mandala going. That was very telling let me tell you!

  2. I like the necklace with the shoes and the slight sparkly on the pants.
I hope jury duty goes quickly and you either get picked or dismissed.

  3. Oh there's no other word for jury duty than "boring", imho. I bring a book and hope for a quiet, soft spot somewhere. I still haven't been chosen for a jury (I think I must look too opinionated : > ). Love your velvet jacket and dazzling jeans, and hooray for the TV person noticing you - she has a good eye!

  4. Oh I LOVE your velvet jacket - very nice with the sparkly jeans. such fun being spotted by a TV person, which just proves how great you look. I've never done jury duty, and at this stage, hope I don't get called!

  5. Jury duty is important, but such a ^(*&$ pain! Fortunately we have a "one day/one trial" system here now: if you show up and don't get picked for a jury pool the first day, you're excused. Great jeans, and how nice to get a compliment from a TV personality!

  6. I have gone for jury selection twice and managed to dodge it both times. It's not as bad with metal detectors up here (!) but it's still exhausting and although it's the whole civic duty thing, it's a pain. I hope it goes quicker for your next time.

I love your sparkly jeans! What fun.

    *hug* Hang in there, hon.

  7. Debbi, I am sorry that things haven't been going well for you recently. It takes time to move through grief, and to be thrown into possible jury duty is not fair. You Do look so lovely in your outfit. I love those jeans!

  8. Rhinestones on jeans? That's my kind of denim! And velvet just cause you want to? Oh, yeah!! Fantastic. Your sparkle on the jeans and off is great and I'm glad the news anchor noted it. That compliment would definitely have made my day too. Good luck with the jury duty...

  9. I love the Chico's jeans - rhinestones add just the right touch with velvet. Too bad about the jury duty. It is like nothing else, and I understand why you don't dress up for it.

  10. The jacket is such a luscious color and just great with these really unusual jeans. I've only ever had to go for jury duty once...and your experience pretty much confirms mine. Let's cross our fingers, you don't get selected!

  12. You sort of have a decadant rock star look going with that plush velvet purple, glitzy jeans and silver glittery shoes! But you've got a classiness to you also. Anyway, I like it lots! :)

  14. Oh, the shoes make me so happy! I know that's a bit mad, but they just make me feel cheerful looking at them.

Jury duty was a pain, back in the day when I was still eligible (going expat relieved me of that particular civic duty; I'm not eligible here and not resident there) but mostly I was annoyed by how long it took them to tell me I wasn't being picked. Hope you find out soon!

  15. First a loss and then jury duty. Urk! I know it is our civic duty and important but still...not so pleasant. I'm glad the reporter admired your jeans. That would make my day too!

  16. Debbie...you look really lovely in your eggplant velvet jacket.

I've been searching high and low for a velvet blazer in that color; of all things, I saw Jon Bon Jovi wearing one....

  18. Girl, you DO wear velvet well, and in that color! So cute little jeans, too. I hope you enjoy your jury duty at least a little. I spent about 3 weeks as the jury alternate on a medical malpractice suit ... and it ended up being fascinating. It could happen!

  19. I can't get over how cool those jeans are! I adore your bold style, and I always find myself saying "I'd totally wear that!" Sorry about the jury duty! Somebody's gotta do it. Maybe the good karma you've built up will bring you good surprises soon.

  20. Of course I love the shoes....

Sorry about your pet. I just got a new one in Feb. after ours died.

  21. Word to the wise: always wear (or at least take) more layers of clothing than you think you need when called for jury duty. Courtrooms are notorious for being too cold! Also, don't eat too many carbs, and get lots of protein... it helps steady the blood sugar and make it easier to pay attention. BUT (if you aren't diabetic, that is) bring a lot of hard candies to suck on... I'm hypoglucemic, and sucked on hard candy throughout each of the bar exams I took. Each of which was 2-3 days long!

  22. I've never been called for jury duty-hmm!
Love the outfit!! The velvet jacket is really cute on you!! Your hair is looking really nice!!

  23. I feel your pain!!!! It seems I get called all the time, not sure why. It's an extremely early trek in rush hour traffic (horrific in my city) and then you sit all day waiting, etc. I can't help but think about the fact that I didn't do anything wrong! Why am I being made to lose money and time? I know, I know. Jury of our peers etc. I'm a little cynical, I guess. But like I said, I feel your pain.

I love your outfit, though. The silver Thoms are especially nice with the ensemble.

  26. I've been called several times but they've all been settled pre-trial, whew! Hope the rest of the process goes as well as it can. Your lush velvet and rhintesones and glitter are a wonderful combination, and I particularly love how the rhinestones become more dense toward the hem - perfect with those shoes!
