Zig Zag, Red & Black Monday

Yes, it is another maxi dress. This summer maxi's have been my go to outfit. I think I am now seeing why some of you love dresses so much for their ease of wear. I coveted this one from the moment I saw it in the Chico's catalog. It is easy to dress up or down and I will be able to wear this in the fall with a black leather jacket and booties. The big plus is I got it on sale for half off, then an extra 30% off of the sale price.

Jacket: Coldwater Creek
Dress: Chico's
Sandals: Think! Julia

A few of you have asked about my hair. After seeing so many other over 50 women with longer hair that look very attractive, I decided that I wanted to let it grow. I would like for it to be all one length except for my bangs. I have a long way to go because my last hair stylist decided that I need to have it thinned out and cut a lot of length off the top layers. Longer hair seems to be easier to style than really short hair.  I am still undecided about the color. I really wish that all my hair was gray, but unfortunately I still have quite a lot of darker hair. I stopped coloring it and let it go natural, but it was just such a bland color, just mousy. Any one have any advice? It just seems like no matter whether I have blond or darker hair it is a lot of upkeep.

  1. That dress is great! I always like your hair, and have to agree about your decision to keep bangs. Blonde really suits you, too.
When I saw that Zig-Zag in your title, I thought about those bracelets of yours that I love - Kate Spade wavy ones. Or are they called Ric-Rac?

  2. Great dress! Love the bold pattern and the colour combination of bright red and black.

  3. I think your hair looks good now. However I know how you feel about letting it grow. I had mine all one length and decided to darken it. With keeping it light blonde I also had a lot of dryness and frizz. The stylist cut some layers in it and that eliminated the frizz for the most part. I do wear it straight and I'm loving it now. By the way, you look great in red.

  4. Cute maxi dress, and what a great deal! I've given up on growing my hair as it's just too thin these days and looks lank once it reaches a certain length. I'm also a mousy-grey mix, not ready to go there yet.

  5. I am LOVING your outfit!! when you get tired of that maxi I'll give it a home!!
I love your hair!! I'm in a quandrey about mycolor but the grey is just so weirdly patchy that it just doesn't look right natural.

  6. Debbie, Thanks for stopping by. Your dress is fantastic. I currently am out of maxi mode for ease of movement. Hope you had a great holiday!

  7. This maxi is one of my favorites of your collection, Debbi - I love the Missoni-style design. I do like your hair very light, just my humble opinion, but I know the upkeep can be a drag. I love the simple bangs - very flattering. Thanks for linking up to Visible Monday!

  8. Lovely in a maxi again! So great.

I wish I could just flip a switch and my hair would grow in in the colour I wanted! My hair is about 50% grey and it drives me nuts. Just be red, like it dye it!

  9. That dress is so fabulous. Most maxis aren't my speed, but I could actually see a ton of ways to wear that one. Great find!

Maybe look into a natural alternative to dyeing. Cassia (http://www.mehandi.com/shop/cassiaobovatabuy.html) is similar to henna only it gives a yellow-golden shade instead of red/orange It would be a good option for healthier hair with a little more glow. It should also make you hair rich and shiny instead of dry. It's a bit of a process, but I find using henna versus chemical dyes makes a huge difference to my hair. And the costs are comparative to buying nicer box dyes. Infinitely cheaper than getting it done in a salon.

  10. I think that this one is my favorite of all the maxi dresses you've worn this summer. It looks great. As for the hair, I have the same dilemma about color. I really wish it would go white overnight, but while I wait, I try to content myself with the idea that at least my mousy hair is shiny.

  11. This dress and jacket combo is great. I cut my hair for the last time when I retired over a year ago and I don"t know why I thought short hair was easier to keep. True, it is easier to wash but on bad hair day all I have to do is pull it in a pony tail or up in a clip. Couldn't be easier. Good luck on your plan for longer hair.

  15. This dress is simply fantastic! I've always admired Missoni, and anything that looks like it! I can see that it's a versatile dress, and I'd love to get one myself!

When I found my current hair dresser, last year, she suggested that I got a mix of blonde stribes in my hair. My natural colour is mouse-grey - but with two very significant all white parts at the ears! It looks like a joke! The stripes are very easy to maintain as they blend in, and don't have to be re-coloured that often.

  16. This is a first time comment. I have been enjoying your blog for awhile. I wanted to reply to the dilemma of hair at our age. I didn't foresee how difficult the whole color issue would be. I have let mine grow....almost shoulder length. Remember the old rules about "older" ladies not having long hair? I am glad that has changed! My hair is pretty dark. I quit the one color look. Now I just have high lights put in. It blends with the grey. Mary

  20. This maxi is such a versatile piece and with some fleece lined tights and great layering pieces you'll be able to wear this chevron printed piece into the winter and beyond! A great buy, especially on sale!

  21. Debbie, it's good I didn't see that maxi earlier, because I would've been losing sleeping until I had one. This one looks like it'll transition nicely into fall/winter.
How about going radically different with your hair like red?

  22. Great outfit! I look forward to seeing it with a black leather jacket and booties too. I'm afraid I have no advice about hair. I had natural grey and liked it but got tired of it so I coloured it (decoloured) it recently. Now I'm looking at a whole new world of upkeep. Yikes! Good luck growing your hair out. The great thing about hair is that it grows and if we make mistakes we can change them fairly quickly - plus there are great hats! (talking to myself here...)

  24. I approve of fun hair changes! I've found having longer hair to be much easier too. I had a pixie for years and the upkeep was ridiculous. If it grew out a little it just looked terrible, so I was constantly getting cuts. I don't have the energy for that now!

  27. I love this dress on you! It hangs beautifully, and really looks lovely at your waistline. The zig-zag moves the eye horizontally. Good call!
