I do like to look at fashion magazines to get ideas on how to use my existing wardrobe or accessories in new ways to make my outfits more on trend. But, I started thinking about all the lovely ladies in the blogs I follow who put together fantastic stylish looks on a real budget. (I started making a list of my favorites and it got too long! Check out my blogroll for their blogs) Needless to say, these ladies inspire me everyday. Putting together a great look on a budget takes a lot more creativity than putting together a magazine look from endless, unlimited items. Just sayin'.
This outfit is from a couple of weeks ago, it is not the greatest, but it is the only one I have available to post right now. I got some new boots from Aerosoles that work over leggings. None of my jeans, even the skinny ones, have legs small enough to go inside boots. If I ever get my sewing machine out and tailor some jeans, these boots will work great with them. There are zippers in the sides that make it easier to get the jeans inside of them. They aren't the Fiorentini + Baker beauties that did not fit my calf's, but they do work and they have an equestrian vibe.

Very cute boots! I've read that "price upon request" means that the retailer provided a sample of something for a shoot and that item may not yet be in production or may *never* be in production or available to purchase. It's a way to get people contacting the designers/retailers. Not necessarily expensive (though often it's the case), just probably not available.
ReplyDeleteI just learned something new! After reading your comment, I went to Google and looked up the phrase. It seems I am not the only one irritated by it. If it won't be available, I don't think it should be shown IMHO.
DeleteGreat boots! Really love the necklace too and the colors and pattern in the top peeking out from your jacket.
ReplyDeleteAaah yeah, I know what you mean. I hate finding amazing things that are vastly out of my price range (or worse, flat out not made any more).
ReplyDeleteI love the boots you ended up with, the black and brown mix is really cute, and those look like they fit well.
Those boots are soooo cute!! Thank you for your blog. I have just recently found it, and being "over 40" but loving fashion I was so glad to see others of a like age and mind. You look great!
ReplyDeleteLarissa
Larissa, thank you for the comment and welcome to the world of over 40/50/60 bloggers.
DeleteThese boots are awesome - I really do like them more than your Fiorentini's. Love that they have a zipper too : >
ReplyDeleteI love this Chicos necklace...its great!! Most things in all fashion magazines might as well be price upon request for me!!
ReplyDeleteAnything you see in a magazine is up for debate. It's about the image/idea more than whether I'd actually purchase it. They're more useful for providing inspiration to shop your closet or to winnow out all the stuff you see in the real world.
ReplyDeleteSometimes they show low-priced stuff that looks pretty good on a color glossy and you know it's worthless. The latest knock-off heels may look good against the real thing in a magazine spread but you know they'd be so stiff and uncomfortable that it'd be a waste of money to even consider buying them.
I like those boots. Sometimes I get the sense that you may have been a bit of a biker-chick in a former life.
Rose, I definitely have a bit of biker chick in me! My husband used to ride motorcyles before he was injured and I asked him not to ride any more. I know it might seem awful of me, but it is so dangerous for motorcycle riders here in Wichita.
DeleteI totally agree about the fact that it doesn't take anything to look stylish modern if you have an unlimited budget and closet full of clothing. I am not a fashion blogger but read many and they have inspired me to dress a bit nicer and to try different things with what I have. I love the look of boots but am too lazy to wear them, I have heavy calves and they are a pain to get on. Yours look great tho! Just thinking........I know you always wear a jacket (you explained why) but I was wondering if you ever wear vests? I was shopping yesterday and noticed so many cute short sleeved sweater vests....I did not buy any because I have a couple and down't want to be stuck with a closet full when they are out of style. BTW I do follow you and you follow me but I don't see my blog listed. I know how it goes ............sometimes you just forget that you have to add new blogs that you follow.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I just realized that all the work I did and thought updated did not update! ARGH! I will definitely add you (thought I had) when I do it yet again.
DeleteAnd yes, I used to wear a lot of vests. I have one I am taking to the cleaners today because I want to wear it. It is right on trend with a black background floral. Expect to see it soon.
Debbi--those boots are awesome and they look COMFORTABLE!! (my #1 priority these days)
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda new to being a "style" blogger (only since first of the year)but I find so much inspiration in all the blogs I'm following.
I'm a vest girl myself--adds a layer without too much coverage for those "power surge" moments!
Hey Debbi! I like those boots - you can wear them with black or brown - nice! I subscribe to MC too and noticed the same thing when I play "Which one is my fav". In previous issues I know I would see one or two (price upon request) but this past issue it looked like it was the majority - I hope that's not the direction they're headed! I find I get most of my idea from my bloggy friends anyway - more realistic styles.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see me on your blog roll - http://fortyishandfluffy.blogspot.com Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDebbi you crack me up! I have heard that phrase too and I think it is totally true. I love reading fashion magazines with the exception of that very thing--so many things in there seem unattainable. I mean, who pays $358 for a belt??? I'd never! Great boots! Hope your knee is healing well!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful....
ReplyDeleteI'm really fond of any Aerosole shoe in the classroom, where I'm sometimes obliged to stand for 3 hours at a time. Beautiful boot.
ReplyDeleteand this is so well said: Putting together a great look on a budget takes a lot more creativity than putting together a magazine look from endless, unlimited items. Just sayin'.
I love those boots! They look like they'd be fun to wear!
