I Dream of Stars and Tie-Dye

Whenever I read the really cool titles that are on blog posts I always think that I wish I could come up with one. I don't know if this one is really cool or is just cool in my head, but it jumped into my thoughts today so I decided to use it. For today's Visible Monday outfit I do have a star print top and tie-dye scarf. Megan Mae and I have 'a thing' for stars (the outer space kind.) For me, maybe it was growing up during the 50's and 60's when the space program was a really big deal, Star Trek was brand new, and man stood on the moon for the first and then the last time. I hope someday to see humans go to Mars, but I fear I will not live that long.

As usual, Mr. Harry decided he needed to get in the pictures. We get such a kick out of his excitement.

I have a question for you all. I am unsure as to whether or not to continue to list the brands of clothing and accessories that I am wearing. When I do list them it is so that if anyone is interested in finding an item it will make it easier for them to do so. If  no one cares, then I will not list them any more. Please comment and let me know your preference.

I just got my new issue of People Stylewatch and in looking through it I realized that the bloggers I follow are really much more interesting than any celebrity. You all dress more uniquely and have more interesting outfits that reflect real life style.  Please visit the linkups at Monday Mingle and Not Dead Yet Style for Visible Monday.

  1. That picture of you and Harry is so cute! I love it! I try to always list where items come from...even though most of what i own was purchased a long time back. But I do think readers want to know. Keep shooting for the stars!! :)

  2. We're the same generation, and Neil Armstrong stepping on the moon will always be one of our treasured memories. I too, hope we go back, and that I live to see it.

I do like to see where items come from, it's good info for future shopping, or just browsing new sites. And I love this picture of you and that handsome guy. Fab scarf too!

  3. I think it's worthwhile to list where things came from. I think a lot of finding a good look for yourself is zeroing in on manufactures/brands who make clothing that fits your body. When you share that with your readers you help them narrow down what will work for them, even if they aren't in pursuit of the exact same item.

I really like the scarf and the shirt, the colors are nice.

  4. On a different subject: Your hair is looking great! The length is fantastic on you.

  5. Outer space awesome! You know I love it, and am totally envious of your star top. I also adore your boots. You should at least list your shoe brands. I'm always oogling your shoes.

I find fashion rags so boring. Bloggers are the hot new thing now. Personal, unique, and a far better group of people if you ask me.

  6. I get the star thing too- as a teen my room was all about space- and now me and the boyfriend listen to Star Talk the podcast- for more spacey fun! I just got a skirt with stars on it- and so I will have to style it, and dedicate it to you.

I'm with you regarding celebrity style- so bored of it- and bloggers are my BiGGEST and BESTEST fashion inspiration!

  8. Debbie, We are more interesting because we are real women. Not some fabrication. We really need to spread the word. I don't know how to help you on the Ipad pin button. My usual solution to just about anything is to google it!
Thanks for you kind comments and I am loving your hair!!!!!!!!!!11

  9. I love blogger fashion waaaay better than magazine fashion which tends to focus on such a narrow wedge of age, size, style - and price! I do like reading where things come from, although I don't always focus on it. I guess the question would be whether you mind taking the time to list your items. You are queen of this universe. Isn't that great? Mr. Harry is such a ham. Your choice of scarf is perfect here. Great look!

  10. The title is great and your boots are great .I don't care about the details only if something is worth mentioning ,please do.Happy new year.Hugs,angie.

  11. Aren't scarves great? I love yours. You look great in the skinnier jeans. I like to know where your things are from....but it's a choice you have to make. I think I forgot to comment on your last post- LOVE the boots!

  12. Scarves are so versatile...
most fashion bloggers that I read do list their garment sources. It's your blog so you call the shots!

  13. When I was young I made tie-dying tees, in many different colors. I still love the technique and the color mix, your scarf is fabulous. You do a great pattern mix with the stars on your tee.
I see even Harry is admiring you! That's no wonder.

  14. I agree with magazine photos. I love blogs so much more. They're more real and therefor more inspiring.
I don't usually list my items and where I got them, but I would tell a person of course if they asked. I really don't think it's necessary really, unless you want to mention what a screaming deal you got.

  15. I think it's probably a courteous thing to do by listing manufacturers. Since I'm built a lot like you, I sometimes find it useful to see where you find things in my shape! I just haven't, but perhaps I should.
Are you doing something special that's making your complexion look so youthful? If you are, please share, 'cause it's working. Nobody works a scarf like you do, kiddo. Looking cute, Debbi!
Happy New Year to you and yours ... not forgetting Harry!

  16. Lo v e the outfit- something I would definitely wear!
I rarely get the dogs wanting to be in the photo.I take mine at 5:30am and they've gone back to bed after eating and outside!!!
I started only listing the brand if I thrifTed a fabulous deal

  17. I like, and always, when possible, list the sources/manufacturers of my stuff. Part of my reasoning is that so much of it is thrifted, and I like letting people know, hey! really good stuff is out there!

And you are especially glowy today. :)

  18. Stars and tie-dye are pretty cool in my book. And that's a nifty jacket paired with them. I'm not interested in brands, stores, etc. for what someone's wearing. In fact, I always wondered why bloggers did that, since it's more like what magazine's do and all they want is to sell stuff. I'm interested in the styling and the uniqueness of what a blogger puts together - not where I can buy more things.

  19. I never thought about putting tie dye and stars together but it totally works. Regarding listing the brands, I tell you, almost every time I post I say to myself I am not going to bother listing the brand because who really cares? I like designer brands and wear them but I don't think it matters if other people know, the real purpose (for me anyway) is just to have fun and share. I doubt if any of us are rushing to go out and buy any particular brand because we saw it on a blog. :-)

    1. Just a heads up - finding the brands I like and that fit me well, I learned from bloggers! Even though I thrift most of my clothes these days, it still helps to be able to see brands other people wear and if they give good reviews, I know I can probably experience similar things as those who own them. Feedback does help, especially if you are a person who retail shops. It's not all about flaunting brand names, but helping communication to your friends and readers about fit, quality, and style.

I say this all as someone who does not monetize their blog links and always give reviews of brands I test out on my own dime. It's important to know about our consumption!

  20. I feel ya on Star Trek. When I was in junior high school, I genuinely believed I was marrying Mr. Spock when I grew up. Not joking here.

Your scarf is so lovely, and being totally animal crazy, I want to hug the puppy!

I like it when peeps say where things came from. I agree with Megan Mae. I'm familiar with a lot of great brands now that I would never have discovered if it weren't for my style blogger buddies.

  21. Debbi, I like your title today! I always struggle with mine...hard to come up with catchy title for an outfit...know what I mean? :D
Your scarf is so pretty! Love the tie-die. Actually, the whole outfit is pretty awesome!
    Loving your Harry!
    Happy New Year!

  22. Your scarf is such a gorgeous color. I love that Harry is an active participant in your blog and always appreciated! Sometimes I name brands and sometimes I don't. I hear what Meagan so astutely expressed. Makes me think I should do it more often, just in terms of learning.

  23. I love the title to your blog post and thing it's way cool. Now I wish I'd thought of it. :)
The colors in your tye dye scarf are so pretty.
I do like seeing where you bought things. I mainly thrift and so it's cool when I find something from Chico's at the thrift store and then I think "Oh, Debbi shops there and they have really nice things!" So many brands I am not even familiar with as I've never been much for keeping up with name brands, etc. So seeing where things are from educates me a little bit on these things.

  24. I love your scarf and your dog is just too much. I think he likes blogging also. So adorable.

  25. It's ALL good Debbi! Stars, Tie Dye, titles....but those BOOTS!! Can we talk about how I would like those in my closet right now??? Keep posting brands....those who want can take the info and those who don't can just ignore it. Just MHO.

  26. I love reading the titles of blog posts too! And yes, I was drawn in with your title! I was going to say that I don't really read the brand names that much, but then I saw the boots, and I really want to know more about them, LOL. So, I would suggest you keep posting them.

  27. Debbi~Its true--I'd rather stop in and see what my blogger friends are wearing than the celebs!
Love your tie dye with stars--what a perfect match!

  28. You are so sweet and honest on your blog Debbi. Of course I read where you purchased your items. Sometimes you mention it in your post which is easier for readers. I too, struggle with always listing items so I try to add it to the post. Harry looks like he's wearing a fuzzy scarf...to adorable. You look really good!!! dawn suitcase vignettes xo

  29. I love the picture of you and your doggy! I think it's nice to list the brand of items you're wearing but if you want to save time and leave it out, I'm sure that's fine too :)

  30. I detest blogs about celebrities and what they are wearing, and even worse copying their look, arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
You are so right, bloggers are their rela inspiration.
Much love always and happy weekend, my dear Debbie.

  31. I love the beautiful softness of your scarf, and the ruggedness of your cuffed jeans and great boots. In general, I like when bloggers include the brand / manufacturer, as it informs my overall learning (learning about overalls!) as others have pointed out, but if you don't feel like listing it or find it a bother, by all means leave it out! It wouldn't stop me from visiting any blog I enjoy, including yours.

I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a fashion magazine - over the past decade or two maybe a couple single issues because a friend's work was featured? I don't watch any TV either so I don't really know much about or follow the shenanigans of celebrities. Due to relative lack of exposure, I find it all very bizarre - the over-retouching, surgically homogenized and uniformly skeletal people, unrelatable content, and the feel-bad effect, ew! Bloggers are where it's at - I love my self-chosen-and-directed media consumption!

  32. I think it's good to list brands, so people can see what's possible at "normal" and thrift stores. Many fashion bloggers post very high-end brands, but the rest of us show that women can still present ourselves well on a budget!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Please list the brand and the place to buy! So helpful!

    ReplyDelete
  34. That his is a great look on you. Harry appears to like it too.

I think if an item is current and available the brand should be listed. Otherwise you can say it is from the back of your closet.

  36. Hi Debbie,
I love your blog title. It goes straight to the point. Too many blog titles are
    confusing.
And I love love your scarf. Its colors are exquisite.
Please keep sharing the list of the brands. This is very useful! Otherwise many of us will probably ask you lots of questions!
    Have a great week,
