Black with a touch of cream

First, I would like to apologize for not having a picture of my nail polish yesterday. I swear it WAS there, but it disappeared when I published the post.

Yesterday's nail polish.
It was hot pink not orange and had silver glitter.
Do you ever look at pictures of your hands and think "how did they get so old and wrinkly looking?" I read once that the reason your hands start looking so wrinkly is that you lose fat in your hands. You can get something injected into your hands to add volume and make them look younger, but I don't think I would ever do that even if I had the money to do so.

Today's outfit is one that is comfortable for a day spent mostly at home due to the cold rain we had. This necklace is another one that I only wear during the holidays.
Sweater: Chico's
Jeans: FDJ
Necklace: Chico's

Yesterday after I posted my blog entry, I chipped my nail polish. I wish I knew why I cannot seem to get more than about a day and a half out of a manicure without it chipping. I use base and top coat, but it still chips. Today's polish is Zoya Reva. It is a deep berry color that with gold metallic sparkle.

I took several pictures before I realized that the gold color
I was seeing was a result of the gold glitter in the polish.
I had an appointment at the consignment shop to drop off clothes today. It ended up that they only wanted 2 jackets and told me to bring the others back nearer spring. They had too many jackets. I wish I had known that before I took every thing over there in the rain only to bring it back home. I did get a check for $10.00 for some blouses I had taken over there. It seems the blouses sell better than the jackets. For those of you who do consigning, how much of what you take do they accept for sale?

  2. The consignment shop I go to 1-2 a week is extremely particular..everything has to be in pristine shape (no stains/rips/tears), current style (which I find "subjective" at times), and even "brand" specific (no Dressbarn, Apt9 from Kohls, etc.) I would say they accept about 1/2 of what I take in...But their business model does work; they sure do the business. You can go there 3x a week and never see the same stuff..and a good bit of my closet now is Chicos, Talbots, etc. (jackets that I paid $18-24 there; tops $8-15; pants $12-18). Im not always in agreement with what they decide to reject...yet I'm happy that they are "picky" in the same vein..

  4. OMG are those zebra socks?! Love 'em. Do you wash your hands fairly frequently? Whenever I paint my nails and do lots of dishes by hand or wash my hands a bunch with warm water tends to lead to more nail breakages/chips. I can't keep polish on for more than a day without chips no matter what though.

  5. Consigning is something I know nothing about...though I hope to learn in the new year. Can't help much with the manicures either. I can attest to the rainy weather and find myself admiring your socks. I hope to be back to blogging soon.

  6. A few months ago, I was horrified about my hands. I began to put Burt's Bees Hand Salve on them every night when I go to bed and I was amazed at the difference it made. People compliment my hands now. You might want to give it a try. It's about $9 a can, but it does go a long way. I have established a great relationship with one consignment shop owner..she and I help each other!!

  7. I think you have lovely hands and gorgeous nails. Hands are subjected to a lot of living, so I guess that's why they show signs of age early on. I cannot imagine injecting fat (whose fat?) into my hands : > Love your new polish, and your necklace!

  8. Debbi, your hands are BEAUTIFUL! Mine are always so dry and I'm reading up at Pam's comment and may have to try the Burt's Bees salve. There is just something so "polished" about having your nails done! Why don't you sell your things on eBay? You get 50 listings each month with no insertion fee. I've always had great success with eBay (this is NOT a compensated comment! LOL). I've never used a consignment store because it just seems like I can make more on my own off of my clothes. Just a thought. Happy Christmas to you!!!! ~Serene

  9. Dear Debbi,
I really like your nail gloss! I don't wear it very often because of the chipping - one tipp if you have to save time by Shirley Conran is: Skip painting the nails. Sensible - but red nails look so sophisticated. Injecting fat into hands: awful idea! I read about that, too - I prefer my hands as they are, use a lot of handcreme and wear marigolds when washing the dishes - that's enough, I still need my hands agile.

  10. Your polish looks great and I know what you mean about our hands showing some age..I slather on lotion but it doesn't seem to make much difference in how they look although they feel much softer.
I rarely consign anymore as we have a Hospice Thrift Shop which sells ladies garments and accessories and I know they do such good work that I feel better giving to them.
    Happy Holidays!

  11. I'm of the opinion that it is precisely the fact that it is so incredibly difficult to keep polished nails looking, well, polished, that makes having nicely manicured nails such a mark of sophistication. If it only required minimal effort and attention everyone would have a gorgeous chip-free manicure. A flawless manicure makes you look like someone who is fastidious about her appearance because you have to be just that.

Must be one of natures cruel jokes- not enough fat in my hands; too much almost everywhere else.

I have never consigned anything. I always figure that if I don't want it, it must really be crap, so I send it to Goodwill.
