Visible Monday/Monday Mingle

It is Monday and that means Monday Mingle and Visible Monday linkups. I never used to look forward to Monday's, but now I do thanks to bloggers Glamamom and Not Dead Yet Style.

Today's outfit has one of my favorite color combinations: black, cream, and hot pink. The jacket is one I have had for a long time. I quit wearing it when I was working because a woman I worked with had one too. She was not one of my favorite people and seeing the jacket on her made me not want to wear it. Now that I am retired, I am back to wearing it. It has all over cream embroidery. I am a sucker for embroidery. We are often inspired to wear an item of clothing due to seeing someone we admire wear it, but have you ever had a piece of clothing take on a negative connotation due to seeing someone else wear it?

Somewhere I saw a photo of someone wearing sheer lace with a bright color underneath. It inspired me to put my hot pink tank under my cream lace tee. I think I will be combining more bright colors under it. It certainly makes it a much more versatile layering piece.

Jacket: CJBanks
Lace Tee and Pink Tank: Chico's
Jeans: French Dressing Jeans
Shoes: Payless

Scarf/Necklace: Vintage
Monogram necklace: Max & Chloe
Bracelets on Left Side of Picture: Self Made
Bracelets on Right: My Signature Yurman
The pearls are kind of a woven tube that allow you to thread a scarf through them. It belonged to a friend of my Mother's. She gave it to Mother who gave it to me. I had put it away in a "safe place"; so darn safe that I forgot where I put it. I found it not to long ago and decide it would provide the perfect touch for this outfit.

If you like my shoes (which I love by the way) they are on sale right now for $19.99 at Payless ShoeSource. These shoes are available in wide width as well.

  1. What a terrific idea to put a colorful tank under white lace. I happen to have a white lace tank that doesn't get out nearly enough - will have to try a tank underneath.

Very cute shoes you have. I will have to check these out - I am always on the hunt for ballet flats.

I, too, look forward to Mondays because of VM and MM....was so sad to have missed last week.

Have a great day, Debbi! You look terrific. I am missing your pup (Henry?) though.

  2. Oops! Harry, not Henry (I knew that didn't sound right). I see that he was in your previous post. I have not been in touch with our fun little blog world much lately; am happy to be getting back into the swing of things this week.

Give Harry a pat on the head for me!

  5. I really like the pearl "scarf tube" and the way you've combined the bright pink and lace. It's been a while, but yes, I've had certain items of clothing lose their luster when someone I don't like or whose style I don't like wears it. Fortunately that hasn't happened in a long time.

  6. very cute! I do love the pink tank under the lace tee, love the idea of bright colors showing through. The shoes are pretty darn cute too. Wide widths are good, I just got some cute new metallic looking flats that I found out are only good to wear for a short time...to church, etc. ...and they are so cute :-(

  7. I love embroidery too, and I smiled at the thought that now you can wear your jacket any time you want! Love the scarf necklace too. Thanks so much for linking up to Visible Monday.

  8. That is a wonderful jacket. I like the lace layered over the pink shirt with it. Those are good looking jeans, too. French Dressing is a name I'm not familiar with, so I'll be Googling it.

  9. I DO like those shoes! Why do I never find cute, inexpensive shoes? Clearly, I'm not trying hard enough. You look cheerful, colorful and chic, as always!

  10. Debbi, what a great look on you! I love this! That's hilarious about the jacket having a negative connotation because someone you didn't like had the same one! LOL I don't know that I've ever had that happen to me.....but maybe I just can't remember. It also looks like you did something different with your hair.....did you? It looks so pretty off your face more! Gotta show off the money maker girly! :) Hugs! ~Serene

  11. Your hair looks really cute! I also love the lace with bright underneath idea. I still need to figure out how to wear the lace vest you sent, but I'm sure it will be a great summer piece.

I used to have a lot of connotations on clothes, colors, shoes.. I still hold to some of them, but by entering the blog world I've gained some perspective that sometimes you gotta just claim something you love and make it yours. I admit sharing identical/similar pieces with other bloggers does increase my item-love, but I feel honored when someone else decides to get something I own or similar. It rarely happens in real life though, so I don't know how I'd feel seeing another classmate (or worse someone I didn't like) wearing something I own.

  12. I like the pattern of the jacket with the pattern of the lace top. The color underneath makes the pattern more noticable.

  13. The jacket is absolutely gorgeous. I think I know what you mean about avoiding certain things because you associate them with someone you dislike, but I can't think of a specific instance off the top of my head. That lace with the tee underneath is genius and you'll have an entire array of new looks as a result. I may have to check out the Payless flats...I like them.

  15. that's a really lovely outfit Debbie, I like the idea of layering a lace top over your tank, the lace looks pretty against the pink. That jacket is awesome, I like the intricate embroidery design. The matching shoes look classy, I always like flats, yours is a great buy at Payless. That scarf with pearls necklace is a unique statement piece.

  18. I love the contrast of the black and cream lacy pattern of the jacket anf the pink and cream of the tops.
That necklace is cool--you can change it up depending on the scarf!

  19. Debbie I am chuckling over the whole jacket story. It makes the item not so special or unique anymore for some reason when you see another person, especially someone you don't care for, wearing it. I am the same way. Great layering under the lace, the pink really shows thru beautifully. Thank you for checkin in on me, I have been pretty miserable at times. Where is my boy Harry? Lots of love girl. 20. Great idea about wearing the hot pink under the lace (I got inspired to try something similar just recently -- I saw another blogger pair a long sleeved collared shirt under a really loose knit. It's fun to try all these things. I really really like that necklace. Are they still available? Probably not since it's vintage :-( I wonder if it could be made? It's a really neat idea. I've had that problem with reading books (if I don't like an author's politics? I can't read their books. so I totally understand.

  26. I love the lace over color! You wear it beautifully with the the embroidered jacket. I too have a pearl tube, but I have no idea where it is. It's always a surprise when I run across something that has been missing for years!
