Last Friday I got my hair colored or I should say bleached. It did not turn out the way I wanted it to. It is more baby chick yellow than I wanted (it doesn't look so yellow in the pics, but it is.) I'm not happy with it, but I've told myself, "it is just hair" and it can be changed. The really bad thing is that it unexpectedly cost $175.00. I was shocked to say the least. I guess that will teach me to ask the cost before committing to changing color. I am thinking of trying to color it myself, at least that way the only person to be mad at is me and it will cost a whole lot less. Have any of you ever tried any of the Garnier Nutrisse haircolor products and if you have did you like it?
My outfit shown today is a simple one that has a spring vibe. It has been rather cool here the past few days. Quite a shock to have spring after having summer straight from winter temps.

My necklace's are some vintage 1960's plastic flowers. I bought a shorter double strand version of them but the plastic flowers are uncomfortable to wear against bare skin. I need to restring it so I can wear it with these necklaces.

I like the light hair color, Debbi, and a change is fun for change of seasons. I have used Garnier haircolor for touch-ups between my appointments, and I've been happy with it.
ReplyDeleteGo Harry, bring your Mommy some cool bugs! : >
Debbi, I am wearing that exact shade of green today, underneath my yellow cardigan. It looks lovely on you!!
ReplyDeleteI see the weather is getting warmer and you can be amongnst the roses where you belong.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous accessories, as ever, my dear Debbie.

Love your Max and Chloe necklace!I wish our weather would warm up over here:) Have a good week!

You look beautiful in that blazer with those lovely accessories. I am so sorry that your hair did not come out as you had planned! The high price only adds insult to injury. In the past I have had that happen too, usually at expensive salons. There is the Grand Finale where they primp and fluff and gush how faaabulous your hair is, and then add, "Please separate your tip, one for the stylist, the colourist, and the hairwasher"! I stagger out of the salon in a daze, go home, and cry! I'm not colouring my hair for now but I hope you find a do-it-yourself product that you are happy with. PS. I like the light colour on you.
ReplyDeleteI have come home from the hairdresser in tears so many times as my hair is very difficult to cut. It's even difficult to colour it unless I choose a darker colour. The colouring process can be damaging to the hair so after a bad experience what I'll do during spring and summer is to just spend some time in the sun (I've been gardening or walking the dog for a couple of hours, every day for a week) - that usually leaves my hair with absolutely no colour (well, gray these days!). However, it doesn't look bad at all on these photos. Maybe you'll change your mind in a day or two? The green colour suits you, and the necklace is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like the lighter color, but I think a richer tone would suit you better. Garnier Nutrisse is my go-to for boxed dye. I've only had my hair dyed once in a salon. Just make sure not to go too drastic. You may want to consider a semi-permanent color to limit damage to your hair.
ReplyDeleteI love the necklaces. Max&Chloe is some major eye candy. And oh! that Wendy B Boleyn necklace is of course an "M" - darnit my bank account just isn't ever full enough these days. Oh well, we can always window shop, right?
My first impression was that the haircolor is cute, though I'm admittedly not an expert on hair tones. Nothing wrong with going a little lighter for summer, but I would have been annoyed by the cost, too! Hopefully you'll get some good tips from readers.
ReplyDeleteI really love your jacket, and you know that bead necklace caught my eye! Happy Visible Monday.
What beautiful colours! I really love that vintage necklace a lot.
ReplyDelete$175.00 for a hairstyle you're not pleased with? I'm so sorry; have you considered calling the salon to see if they'll do a colour correction for you? In my experience, they will often correct stuff like that at little/no additional cost, because they'd rather eat the money than have an unhappy customer telling other people about it. It photographs well, anyway!
Your hair looks nice. It is blonder than your previous color, but it's summer, so why not!
ReplyDeleteI worked with a woman who had an expensive hair job at a salon that another women, whose hair was always perfect, recommended. "Peggy" then proceeded to hate the new color, telling everyone who complimented her on the new color (you know how that can go at work), which was more brunette than what she'd normally had, wash it over and over and generally miss out on the best part of a color job, which is right after you've had it done before it fades.
I think enjoy your nice hair color. You don't have to go back, but don't clobber it up trying to change it. Hair can only take so much chemical processing before it turns into straw.
I don't know if I would try coloring it at home, beyond a root touch-up because you've got hair that's been highlighted and now blonded and it's probably very porus and prone to coloring snafus. I sometimes highlight my hair at home and once I've done that I'm very careful not to color over top of the highlights in subsquent touch-ups until it's all almost grown out and trimmed off.
Well, in the pictures you look youthful and fun!! But if you are really unhappy...for that much money..i would ask for a do over! That is common. So go for it! But I love the way you look in these pictures!
ReplyDeleteIs that monogram necklace your actual initials? How totally cool! Last night I saw Joan River's hair on TV, and she had done the sides in a vivid yellow. Very different, but interesting for a change. Obviously she had done it on purpose as a fashion statement. Maybe you could convince everyone that your hair color is just "cooler" than theirs, until the color tones down.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about your look today, Debbi! I adore your hair color and how you've pulled the sides back away from your face. I agree with Pam, you look youthful and fun. The shade of green in your jacket is very pretty and so is your necklace. Love the crisp, white button down with it too. You just look so fresh and springy!
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie!
ReplyDeleteI'm also in agreement with the ladies...your hair color looks great!
I think I may just like you jacket just as much! Love the color on you!
Your hubby sounds like mine...I'm sure he'd much rather be taking photos of flowers and bugs. :)
I meant my hubby would rather take photos of nature than of me. I'm not a very cooperative model.
ReplyDeleteI love the new location for the photos and you can't blame the dog for all the fascinating new smells of spring. After your apology for the neck photo, I looked and could see nothing wrong! Your neck is a YOUNG neck. I've noticed that mine is a distinctly different color than the area below, which I guess makes me a red-neck! Yikes.
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely color!
ReplyDeleteThe mint green blazer is a really nice color, so spring time lovely. Looks perfect with a white shirt and jeans. You look smart chic. I like the fun necklace. If you hadn't mention I probably didn't notice the hair color...don't worry you look fine.

I think your hair looks great and love what you did with the combs. However, it can be so frustrating when you don't get what you expected. The green jacket with your jewelry looks wonderfully spring-like. Thanks for the link to the jewelry website - so many beautiful items.
ReplyDeleteLove the spring-timey look of your outfit!!
ReplyDeleteI've been coloring my hair for (cough cough) 35 years-started getting GREY hairs at 16. I've used the Garnier--really nice and Loreal products. The new foam ones make it really easy!
The outfit I love--so young and fresh. Sorry about the hair. I would go back and complain and try to get a fix. Thanks so much for sharing on Monday Mingle--good luck!
ReplyDeleteMax & Chloe IS great -- thanks for the love. You know, you should feel free to go back to the salon and ask for color correction. Any good place will do that!
ReplyDeleteI love to see a crisp white shirt, such a simple but classic wardrobe staple, so underestimated though. You have such beautiful jewellery too, vintage is always the best.
ReplyDeleteChristobel x P.s- you have found a great niche in creating your blog.

You look great in those leggings. I do color my own hair, but with a different brand. It turns out OK, but sometimes I might miss a spot. If I had to pay $175 I wouldn't need to worry about how to color it....I have died from a heart attack.
ReplyDeleteThat soothing green is so pretty on you!
ReplyDeletevery lovely necklace!

There is something you should try before you try to re-color your hair or color yourself. I very highly recommend a product called 'Blonda' toning shampoo (there is a conditioner also) by the brand Unite for toning down the ducking yellow of bleached hair. I have used this product a lot because, even if my hair is perfectly white at the salon, it will get yellow eventually.
ReplyDeleteI'd also suggest that you call the salon and explain that your color is more yellow than you'd like and ask them to apply a toner for you. I was a receptionist at a (very pricey) hair salon for years and it is not unusual for it to take a couple of attempts to get a blonde just right. Call within the first few days after your color and the toner should be gratis if this is a respectable salon. I suspect that the cost for corrections like this are kind of built into the price at expensive salons.
But do try the shampoo too. Because if you keep the color ducking yellow will be your constant nemesis and the shampoo really helps control it. It doesn't look particularly yellow in these photos. Mine always seems to look fine in real life and more yellow in pictures.
I know that there are toners or something like that out there. I had my hair dyed and it turned out totally the wrong color. I paid $160!! I told the lady it was too red and she said "oh give it a couple of shampoos and it will deepen". Never happened. I called and told her this and she told me I could come back in and she would tone it down for me but I didn't even bother. I just went to the Target and bought a black dye and did it myself. It ended up going right back to my natural dark brown so I was happy but you talk about a waste of money!! Never again! Anywho, I do like the blonde on you. I hope you get it to the shade you want. Love those jeans and are those gardenia's in the background? LOVE! I am praying that your knee surgery goes well. Kiah
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful Debbi! I love your new hair, but I am sorry you are disappointed with it--especially spending so much money!!! I get so frustrated with how much it costs to get your hair done I sometimes (often) contemplate shaving my whole damn head! I love these colors on you. The necklaces are divine as are the sandals. Hope you have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy first visit to your blog and I have to say that I really like this look on you. The color, the lines of the jacket and the necklace too! Think I'll have to follow your blog and see what you are up to. Hugs!!
