A bittersweet Visible Monday

Wow, Visible Monday #54! It just does not seem possible that so much time has passed since the first VM.

Today's outfit is one of my favorites. I have worn this same combo several times. It is probably not the typical summer outfit, but I certainly feel like I am a "hip 60 year old" when I wear it. I wish the pictures had come out better. My photographer decided to change the lighting and it just did not work well as you can see. We took the photos inside because over 100F degrees was a bit too much warmth for taking them outside.

Jacket: Chico's
Top: KMart
Jeans: NYDJ Cheetah
Sandals: Think! Julia
The top is one of the K-Mart LYS (Love Your Style) Plus-size tops I got a while back. It is sleeveless and has pleather accents on one shoulder and for a faux pocket. It's made of a double layer of sheer fabric and I think it looks a lot more expensive than it is. I think it will work for year round wear. I am so thrilled with this top. I have quite a bit of pattern mixing in this outfit. The jacket has very subtle stripes and of course the jeans have the cheetah print. I chose to go with bold gold jewelry.

Necklaces: Ax + Apple
The necklaces have layered chains. The shorter one has acrylic tubes above the layers and the longer one has a coin. Many of the Ax + Apple pieces feature real old coins. The bracelet has a British coin featuring Queen Elizabeth.  You can also see the pleather accents on the top in this photo.

Bracelet: Ax + Apple
Please stop by Not Dead Yet Style and visit all the other participants to see what they feel makes them feel visible on this 54th Visible Monday.

Goodbye Sweet Jada

Two weeks ago today, my husband and I helped Jada cross the Rainbow Bridge.  She had reached the point where she was having trouble breathing and walking was very difficult for her. We did not want her to suffer any more. We stayed with her as the Vet gave her the medication and sat with her for a while afterward. She passed quickly from this earth but will never pass from our hearts. She was such a sweet, good girl. We had her cremated and now have her ashes in a lovely oak box. Losing a being who was such a part of each and every day of our lives brings to mind that all of us have a limited amount of time on this lovely earth and we should treasure each and every moment of the time we have. Thank you to those of you who contacted me during the time I have been away from my blog. This has been a rough few weeks and it means so much to me that you have been so kind.

  2. So sorry to hear about your dog.

With the camera....if it has an exposure compensation button or menu item, try it at +2 or +1.7 and see what you think.

Nice outfit. I like the column of black concept.

  8. Love your outfits, you do them so well! So sorry about your Jada, we couldn't imagine life without a dog. We're on our 7th and 8th Lhasa Apsos, so we've gone through a lot with losing them, but I guess that is the price for having such wonderful pets. But every loss is so difficult!

  14. Such a chic look. I love the coin-bracelet. My great-grandmother used to wear two necklaces - one with a tiny photo of my brother and I, the other was a set Sacajawea coin in gold. Love the add bit of toughness from the pleather patch. I love details like that.

I'm still so sorry to hear about Jada. She brought so much joy into your life. Sending lots of e-hugs and love.

  16. My condolences Debbie - very sorry to hear about your dear Jada, my parents did the same as you they had to put our family dog home, stayed with her and sat with her afterwards, I think they fed her chocolate cake as she slipped away. Take care of yourselves. Wonderful outfit, the necklace is fabulous against the black and the jacket is very chic.

  17. Again, so sorry to hear about Jada (god, I should never have re-read the Rainbow Bridge - that just kills me every time!). Extra cuddles for Vizzini today! When we put Inigo down, we sat with him for about half an hour, just petting him and being with his body for the last time.

(Trying to hold it together here at my desk...).

    Hugs,
    Sheila

  24. I'm very sad about Jada. At the very least you knew the time was coming and could shower her with affection in her last days. I was concerned when I hadn't seen any posts from you in a while. I'm glad you're back even though it is with heavy heart...

You have still managed to look wonderful in this outfit. I think that short jacket suits you so well! It's fun, flirty and hip. And the patterning is bold too. I'm sure you'll get lots of wear from that great top.

  26. My sympathy for the loss of Jada.

We got a bird from my MIL and honestly I didn't like it at all. Eventually we found someone to take him and despite being pleased that birdie was gone (he was very messy) I found that I listened for the ruffling of his feathers and his yelling out "hello" when I walked in the door.

I know for a pet you loved the absence will be painful.

Welcome back! I missed your posts, and yes, you are a very hip 60 year old in this elegant ensemble. Your jewels provide a touch of glamour to the neutrals that you wear so well. But then you wear color well too!
