Visible Monday - What I Wore on New Year's Day

Today I am participating in Visible Monday #27 with Patti @ Not Dead Yet Style. This outfit is what I wore on New Year's Day to go to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie. It is very, very visible with all the gold metallic threads in the jacket.

I really enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes--lots of action and suspense. We rarely go to movies at the theater because we have cable with all the movie channels which allows us to see most anything we want. There are some movies that need to be seen on the big screen and this is one of them.
Jacket: Chico's
Top: Talbot's
Jeans: NYDJ from Dillards
Booties: Orange Suede Nine West
This outfit looks better in person than in these photos

Nail polish is Edyta by Zoya
The bracelet closet to my watch is my new bangle bracelet from Yurman
It was a birthday present from my Mother, Sister & Brother-in-Law
One of my goals for the new year is to learn more about photography. I just signed up for a workshop on Fashion Photography taught at City Arts. I will be sure to share any tips I get with all of you.

I have also been tossing around the idea of taking some shots of outfits that are displayed on a dressform. That would allow me to showcase some accessories and illustrate how different accessories look on the same outfit. I can do these type of shots myself and not have to inconvenience my husband with waiting on me to change accessories. What do you all think? Would it be something you would be interested in seeing?

With Pam's (of over50feeling40) help, I am also planning on interviewing some local boutique owners and showcasing some of their merchandise. I know I enjoy seeing what different things are available in different areas of the country.

When we were about done taking pictures, my husband asked Harry if he wanted to pose for a picture. He is so funny! He came straight over and sat down in front of me to have his picture taken. Usually, we have to try to get him to sit still. He adds a lot of life to our home as do the other two Airedales. I will leave you with a photo of me and silly Harry.

Love your nail polish!! so fun!

Glad to hear you are taking a fashion photo course--that is great! I also took a photo course too --only it made me go out and buy a new camera....I am not going for a dslr tho--just too expensive.

  5. I like the way you mixed textures (I get it that it's more nuanced in person) and the nails are very hip. Looking forward to your photo tips.

  8. Yum, love the sparkly, jacket Debbi. Good on you for taking a class. I would be very interested in some photo tips. Some of the people who post on visible monday really look like they know what they are doing and have great shots. I have to learn to raise the camera UP. I have a bad tendency to lower my head and it showcases all my chins! Or I lift my head and get goofy shots that look like I am watching birds...

  10. Beautiful sparkly tweed! Glad you got to see Sherlock! Definitely one of the best movies I've seen this year.

Haha, Harry is so silly. I met my uncle's Airedale, Stella, and she had the most wonderful gentle personality. I can see why you love them!

  13. You look sharp and must have twinkled in the dark theatre. We don't see many movies either; our last one was the Adventures of Hugo Cabret. We enjoyed it immensely, but they don't seem to make too many films for our age group. I for one would absolutely be interested in variations on accessories on a manniquin.

  16. I liked "Sherlock." They gypsy was the same girl who played Lisbeth in the Swedish version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tatto." IMO the American version of that movie GWDT, is a Netflix or a cable watch, not a full priced ticket value.

Our New Year's splurge was IMAX "Mission Impossible." Considering that I spent half the movie with my eyes closed I'm not sure if it was worth the extra $$$.

I think a manniquin is useful for making a style point, but I like things on a real girl as well.

  17. Debbie,,I am chuckling at Harry and at the two feathered ends of the arrows looking like they are sticking out of you. Not funny if this really happened but funny for a photo. Anyway, your jacket is gorgeous and glam. I like your new plans...can't wait to see what you come up with. I am excited for the tips you share with us regarding photography for fashion...yay! 18. Love your outfit, Debbi. The sparkly jacket and beautiful colors in the top are great!
Sounds like you have some wonderful ideas for the upcoming year. Yes, please let us know any tips for taking better photos. My photos are the worst...never super clear. I've tried reading a little but it just goes over my head. I have to take most of my photos on a 10 sec. timer and those seem less clear. I've tried adjusting the clarity in Picnik, but it doesn't help much.
Harry must be getting used to being a celebrity in the blogging world. So cute. :)
