Using Shoe Clips to expand your shoe wardrobe

It was horribly hot again today. I know you are probably saying, dang lady, you say that every day! But the heat is starting to make me tired and aggravate my asthma, so I did not change out of my yoga gear after class this morning. Me in yoga gear is not something anyone wants to see, so, I had a different idea for today's post about another form of accessory.

Today, Pam @ Over50Feeling40 wrote a post about thrifting Shoes . Unfortunately, I do not have much luck thrifting shoes, although I do occasionally buy some via ebay.  I do have lots of sandals for the summer, but winter shoes are fewer so one of the ways I use to increase my shoe wardrobe variety is to use shoe clips. The heyday of shoe clips was probably in the 60's, but they are still available. One really good source is Shoeclips.biz I have purchased several shoe clips from them and have been satisfied with their quality and service. (I have no affiliation with them.) Ebay is another source of vintage clips.

I have taken 3 pair of just plain ballet flats and attached some of my shoe clips to them to illustrate what they look like. It is a fairly inexpensive way to make your shoes look different and unique.  To make them more versatile, I try to get clips that can be worn on more than one pair of shoes.

The shoes are all French Sole New York ballet slippers.

I think you can click on the photo to have it open larger. (At least it works
that way in Internet Explorer for me.) I am still working on my photography and photo manipulation skills. By the way, I would not necessarily wear some of these clips with these particular shoes, I was just using them for illustrative purposes.

  1. These are fantastic! I love the leopard bows, the green pasta (?) clusters and the classic rhinestone clips at the bottom middle. What a clever idea. I'm going over to shoeclips right now, thanks.

  2. Shoe clips are amazing creations. I can't wait for the day when I have a place to store stuff because those will be number one on my list. The best part is they can be clipped anywhere on the shoe. On the side, back, toe! It's also a great way to incorporate shoe trends without buying new shoes.

  4. Shoe clips are something I've never tried, although I see them in our local DSW from time to time. They can really change the look of the shoe. I can VOUCH for how hot is in our area--you are putting things mildly. 111 heat index in my little Kansas town today.

  5. I don't have good luck thrifting shoes either. It seems there is usually a reason people are getting rid of them. Shoe clips are a great idea. I'm gonna have to try this.

  7. Debbi, I love the large clips, especially. This is a great idea! I'm going to try to remember to try this with my clip-on earrings. I think that would work. Debbie http://thriftygirlvintage.com

  9. Hi, Debbi! Enjoyed your post. I see you wrote this as the trend was getting under way last year. Yup, shoe clips are back, and in a big way this summer! Hope you'll check out my handcrafted shoe clips, heel chains (and decoupaged pointe shoes for display, as well!) at: http://shoeclips.weebly.com/ ! With designs like sushi, popsicles and 6" glitter fringe, they are definitely NOT the same old, same old! Thanks, Ellen
